Changes to the cost of 08 and 09 numbers

From July 1st is the cost to the consumer for calling an 08 and/or 09 number will be split into two clear parts both consisting of a Price Per Minute charge:

  1. A Service Charge: This is the cost that is charged on calls to these numbers which is set by the range holder e.g. Vodafone, O2, Colt which is up to 7p a minute for 084/3 numbers and 13p per minute for 0871/2 numbers.

  2. An Access Charge: This is the cost that is charged by the caller's service provider for calling the actual number e.g. BT, Talk Talk etc.

As well as this, 0845 numbers will fall under the same directive as all other 084 numbers and 0870 numbers will now fall under the same directive as all other 087 numbers. What we mean by this is that these numbers will all have the same pricing points, same costs no matter what time of day these calls are being made or received.

So how will your phone bill change?

On your next bill, any cost and changes to the numbers that are live, the bill will identify the service and transit cost with a breakdown of where these costs have come from.

If you use any 08, 09 numbers you need to update the call cost advice, depending on who originally issued the number as to the cost of the call. Meaning that for instance an 0845 number for two different suppliers may be priced differently.
